Professor Rosamund Sutherland, 1947-2019

Professor Rosamund Sutherland, Venturers Trust board member, died on 26 January 2019, aged 72. She was a specialist in the teaching and learning of mathematics and the application of new technologies in education, with a passion for tackling educational inequality in schools. Alongside the tremendous contribution Ros made to Venturers Trust, she was also Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Bristol.

Colin Skellett, Deputy Chair of Venturers Trust and Chair of Governors for Merchants’ Academy, worked closely with Ros for many years. He shared the following tribute:

Ros Sutherland was involved in Merchants’ Academy from the very early days, both as a governor and directly working with students. She was particularly close to the sixth form, coaching individual students and helping each year with their preparations for university applications.

Ros was inspirational and completely dedicated to helping every student achieve their very best. She will be greatly missed by Venturers Trust, Merchants’ Academy and most of all, by the individual students she helped.
